8-yr-old branded with hot iron in Keonjhar

Baripada: In the umpteenth case of its kind in the state, an eight-year-old boy was branded with hot iron by his mother at Panchama village in Keonjhar district.

The matter came to the fore today when the child was admitted to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital after his condition deteriorated.

The mother of the child, identified as Gurucharan Kala, branded the head of her son with hot iron when he did not recover from a fever he was suffering from for two days. After his condition became worse, family members of the child admitted him to the district headquarters hospital.

Dr Kabindra Prasad Sahu, who is treating the child at the hsopital, said, “The condition of Kala is fine. The hospital will provide treatment to him free of cost.”
