Jharsuguda: Four railway protection force (RPF) personnel have been placed under suspension for their alleged involvement in loot of huge stocks of rice from a freight train in Jharsuguda district.

RPF DG has suspended the four officials, inspector LN Das, ASI SK Kumar and havildars RV Thakur and D Baxala on charges of dereliction of duty after a probe into the theft.

According to sources, 288 sacks of rice belonging to the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited were being transported to Ranchi from Bargarh in a goods train when it was looted on the night of January 8.

After the loot, the rice packets were reportedly kept in a abandoned godown in Doubling Colony near Jharsuguda railway station.

Acting on a tip-off, the railway police had recovered the rice from the house and arrested three persons identified as Rahul Sahu, Krishna Sahu and Tinku Kanta. They were produced in a court yesterday.
