In a heartbreaking incident, a mother elephant carried its dead baby for two kilometres and tried to revive it by placing it in water. The heart-wrenching incident of the pachyderm trying to revive the lifeless calf and crying in pain has gone viral leaving the internet in tears.

The mother elephant’s painful cries echoed in the air. The tear-jerking video was shared on Twitter by IFS Susanta Nanda and has garnered over 26.7K views with a plethora of sad reactions from social media users.

Sharing the video, Susanta Nanda wrote, “This broke my heart. The calf has died but mother doesn’t give up. Carries the dead baby for two KMs and tries to revive it by placing in water and the mother’s cries ranting the air.”

In the video, we can see the mother elephant crying in pain and trying to revive its calf even as it lies dead in the water.

Although it is still not clear how the baby elephant died, the bereaved mother’s reaction can make anyone cry. The video showcases the unconditional love and care of mother, be it a human or an animal. 

“Heart breaking… had the misfortune of seeing something similar few years back…” commented a user.

Another user wrote, “Yesterday a vehicle hit almost the whole herd of elephants and  3 elephants died in an accident near Palamaner, Andhra Pradesh. The elephant deaths are on the rise in this area in some or the other way.”
