WhatsApp's QR Code support: Check how you can transfer chats to a new phone

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, now lets users transfer their chats from an old phone to a new one using a QR code. The method is quite faster and more secure as it does not involve cloud storage.

In a video, CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the feature, emphasising its privacy benefits as it keeps conversations on the devices. 

Here is how to transfer chats using this method and why it is advantageous compared to cloud-based transfers.

Transferring WhatsApp chats using the QR code method

1. Connect both your old phone and new device to the same local Wi-Fi network to ensure a secure connection.
2. On your old phone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings, click on Chats, and then select Chat transfer.
3. A unique QR code will be generated on your old phone's screen.
4. On your new device, open WhatsApp and look for the option to scan the QR code.
5. Use your new device to scan the QR code from your old phone.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process and transfer your chats.
