Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been one of the most significant technological developments in recent times. It is transforming the way we live, work, and engage with the world.

As AI technologies continue to advance rapidly, experts are predicting that we will see even more transformative changes in the near future.

Here are the six expert insights for the future of AI and discussion on the potential pros, cons and possibilities that may arise.

NR Murthy

Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, recently shared his views on the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to Murthy, the concept of AI is not a new one. In fact, there was a similar technology called programme generators back in 1977-1978. At that time, many people feared that younger generation would lose their jobs, but that did not happen.

Murthy believes this is because the human mind is an incredibly flexible instrument that can adapt to change very well.

Furthermore, Murthy thinks that the development of AI is a positive thing.

He believes that AI tools like ChatGPT are beneficial and that we should welcome them.

However, he also suggests that we should use ChatGPT as a starting point to showcase our creativity, smartness and innovation. By doing so, we can solve bigger and more complex problems that ChatGPT and other AI tools are currently unable to handle.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran

During a conversation with Business Today, N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, shared his thoughts on the potential impact of AI.

According to Chandrasekaran, AI is a disruptive technology that will fundamentally change the way we work. He acknowledged the significant implications for jobs and skills in the future and also highlighted the need for a regulatory framework to manage these changes.

Chandrasekaran further revealed that his company is already exploring the use of ChatGPT in a pilot project for one of their subsidiaries.

He expressed confidence in the leadership across the organisation, stating that there are many talented individuals who are open to change and willing to be re-skilled.

Chandrasekaran believes that by bringing everyone together and collaborating with the leaders of the group, they can successfully implement AI tools like ChatGPT to improve productivity and solve complex problems.

Milind Lakkad

In a recent interview with PTI, TCS' CHRO Milind Lakkad shared his thoughts on AI's impact on the workforce.

According to Lakkad, AI has the potential to increase productivity, but he does not believe that it will replace jobs. Instead, he anticipates that the nature of jobs will evolve and transform as a result of AI.

Lakkad also views AI as a "collaborator" rather than a replacement. He sees the technology as a tool that can be used to augment human intelligence and enhance decision-making capabilities.

However, Lakkad emphasised the need for reskilling and upskilling employees to adapt to these changes and leverage the benefits of AI.

Sundar Pichai

In a podcast interview with the New York Times, Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared his perspective on the impact of AI on software engineering.

According to Pichai, AI has the potential to improve the programming process by automating some of the more repetitive and mundane tasks, making it more enjoyable for programmers.

He also emphasised the importance of collaboration and assistance in the programming process and highlighted the potential for AI to enable more efficient and effective teamwork.

Pichai believes that collaborative tools with built-in AI assistance will make programming easier over time.

Dr. Alain Briançon

In regards to the future of AI, Dr. Alain Briançon, the Chief Technology Officer and VP Data Science of Cerebri AI, emphasised the potential for groundbreaking advancements that are currently beyond our imagination.

In a recent statement, Dr. Alain Briançon acknowledged the importance of addressing concerns surrounding privacy abuses and data security in order for AI to gain wider acceptance.

This emphasizes the need to consider the ethical implications of AI development and implementation. While the potential benefits of AI are immense, it is crucial to ensure that these technologies are used responsibly and with consideration for potential negative consequences.

Stuart J. Russell

During an interview with India Today, Prof. Stuart Russell, a computer science professor at UC Berkeley, shared his thoughts on the potential impacts of AI on various areas.

Prof. Stuart expressed concern that advancements in technology could make computer programmers redundant, as they can now write code 5 to 10 times faster using new tools. This would result in the need for fewer programmers since the world does not need five or ten times as much software.

Prof. Russell also acknowledged that AI has the potential to significantly impact other areas beyond computer programming.

However, Prof. Stuart cautioned that the potential negative impacts of AI, such as bias and loss of privacy, must be addressed.

He emphasized the importance of developing AI that aligns with human values and ethics.

These concerns highlight the need for responsible AI development and implementation, with careful consideration given to the ethical implications of these technologies.
