Apple has kicked off its biggest 4-day event, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024.  Apple's responses to many questions, especially in the AI sector, were vague last year.

This year at WWDC 24, Apple clarified its stance on "What is an AI smartphone?" They explained what they mean by incorporating GenAI (Generative artificial intelligence) into the iPhone.

Apple Intelligence

According to the Indian Express, Apple has made non-AI smartphones obsolete as well.

Regarding AI smartphones, Apple is introducing AI through iOS 18, a new version of the mobile operating system for iPhones.

This upgrade is expected to supercharge iPhones with AI capabilities and reach a wide user base by the end of the year.

The impact of AI technology on the iPhone and the smartphone market overall will be significant. While some AI features have been present in smartphones for years, GenAI represents a foundational shift.

During WWDC 2024, Apple referred to its AI model in the iPhone as 'Apple Intelligence,' emphasising its ability to simplify users' lives while prioritising privacy.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple Intelligence combines generative models with personal context to deliver relevant intelligence.

It gathers information about users and their relationships to optimise features that assist them.

Apple Intelligence is not just a marketing term; it utilises insights about users to enhance various features. While it is not the only AI model, it is tailored to understand users personally, as per the report.

Apple Intelligence was a prominent feature at WWDC 2024, offering a glimpse into the future of the iPhone.

While some believe Apple's AI features are not groundbreaking, competitors like Samsung and Google have already introduced similar technology in their flagship phones.
