After Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered a four wicket victory over Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on FRiday, they have a slender hope of qualifying for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoff. Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) & Delhi Capitals (DC) have already been eliminated from the mega tournament. 

With only four league games available, let’s take a look at the qualification scenarios of other teams for the playoff race.

Gujarat Titans

Already through to Qualifier 1.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Next match against Delhi Capitals (May 20)

Qualification scenarios:

If they win – Playoffs berth guaranteed. It will also result in a Qualifier 1 place if LSG don’t beat KKR by a huge margin.

If they lose – Either RCB or MI must lose their last match. Alternatively, KKR must beat LSG by a big margin.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Next match against KKR (May 20)

Qualification scenarios:

If they win – Top 4 guaranteed. They could also feature in Qualifier 1.

If they lose- RCB or MI must lose their last match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Next match against GT (May 21)

Qualification scenarios:

If they win – Between MI, CSK and LSG, one team must lose their last match.

If they lose – They must not lose by a big margin to remain ahead of RR on net run rate. Moreover, MI must lose their last match, and KKR must not beat LSG by a big margin.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Played all of their matches

Qualification scenarios:

RCB must lose against GT by a significant margin and MI must not win against SRH. Even if KKR beat LSG, the margin must be narrow.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Next match against SRH (May 21)

Qualification scenarios:

If they win – One of CSK, LSG and RCB must lose their last game.

If they lose – Elimination.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Next match against LSG (May 20)

Qualification scenarios:

If they win – They must win by a huge margin. Moreover, MI and RCB must lose their last games by good margins.

If they lose – Elimination.
