Apart from talent and skill, discipline is also an important aspect in cricket. Many talented Indian cricketers were dropped from the squad due to disciplinary issues in the past. Lack of discipline has also prevented some talented cricketers to be selected in the Indian team. Let’s have a look at some of those cricketers…

Vinod Kambli

Exceptionally talented southpaw Vinod Kambli failed to achieve his full potential due to disciplinary issues. He made a sensational start to his international career. However, he was eventually dropped from the team following the 1996 World Cup semifinal debacle due to behavioral issues.

As per reports, it became almost a routine for him to return to the hotel room as late as 2 or 3 AM. Moreover, his habit to knock at the doors of other boys and wake them up in the middle of night was a big problem for his teammates. He would drink and cry loudly, which disturbed others. It also reflected on their performance the next day.

One night before an ODI in Lucknow, Kambli got drunk and had a fight with his fiancee in the hotel room. Once, he also abused former captain Mohammad Azharuddin for his failure in a match in Sharjah and created quite a scene in the dressing room.

Lala Amarnath

Former India great Lala Amarnath was sent back from India’s tour of England by then captain for an alleged act of disobedience during a first-class game in 1936. As per reports, a letter signed by many teammates also demanded action against Lala for his alleged disciplinary issue.

Hardik Pandya & KL Rahul

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and batsman KL Rahul were sent home from India’s tour of Australia in January 2019 for making controversial and highly derogatory remarks about women during a popular TV chat show. They were subsequently banned. Later, they issued an apology after the matter turned into a massive controversy. The ban on Pandya and Rahul was lifted a few weeks later even as an inquiry was ordered into the incident.

Moreover, Mumbai star batter Sarfaraz Khan is not reportedly getting picked in the Indian squad despite exceptional domestic performances due to his alleged discipline and fitness issues.
