The ‘Dada’ of Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguly has come out in support of Hitman Rohit Sharma. The former BCCI President backed Rohit Sharma to be the captain of the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024.

He is the latest to join the bandwagon of stars to back Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be included in India’s squad for the World Cup in June. Of late, several questions have been raised over Rohit and Virat’s inclusion in the team as they haven’t played a single T20 match in the last two years.

However, the two cricket stalwarts have made themselves available for the T20 World Cup and the selectors are yet to take a big call now regarding their future.

“Of course, Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen even if they are coming back to a T20 game after a long gap,” Sourav stated.

Meanwhile, India squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan was announced and both Rohit and Virat Kohli have been part of the team. Rohit will lead the squad while Kohli will be looking forward to showing his class.

The two experienced batsmen only played in the IPL. They were either rested or asked for rest for the last 22 T20Is India played since the semi-final defeat to England in Adelaide on November 10, 2022. In their absence, young players like Yashaswi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma were allowed to play and they all showed their skills.
