Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes that promising batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal should be a part of the national side for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. However, the former southpaw warned the selectors not to choose players in the national team on the basis of their performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Notably, Jaiswal has performed splendidly in domestic cricket, IPL and now in the ongoing West Indies tour. The left-handed opener scored a century in his Test debut against West Indies. He scored a fifty in the second match.

As per Gambhir, Jaiswal merits his selection to the Indian team straightaway purely on the basis of his consistent domestic performances and his show in the IPL last season.

“But do not select anyone after one season. Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL and score runs again and if he is consistent then you can think of adding him to the Indian team,” said Gambhir.

Earlier, former India captain Sourav Ganguly had also batted for Jaiswal to be included in the Indian team for the upcoming ODI World Cup to be played in India. As per Ganguly, Jaiswal’s inclusion in the national team for the mega event will add variety to the Indian batting lineup.
