After his controversial catch by Cameron Green during India’s second innings against Australia in the recently-concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval, the promising batter took to Twitter and made a cheeky post.

Gill was controversially adjudged out after Green took a sensational catch at gully. The catch was referred to the third umpire as it did not look clean. After watching many replays, the umpire gave it in favour of Australia.

Gill cheekily tweeted emojis of magnifying glasses and a face palm.

However, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting reckons that Gill could be penalised and there are chances he gets suspended as well.

“Something is definitely going to come of that. There will be some sort of fine, or maybe even a suspension. That is a direct crack at the umpire for the decision that they made. You can’t do that. The whole world was going to do that for him … he didn’t need to say a word,” said Ponting while giving commentary on a television channel.

Former Australia player Justin Langer also criticised Gill for his responses on social media.

As per Langer, Gill’s tweet was a bit irresponsible and showed inexperience.

“One of the challenges now of a modern-day cricketer is there’s so much social media. The Gill tweet I think is a bit irresponsible, shows some inexperience. This is the world we live in with social media,” said Langer.
