Each time India fail to win an ICC trophy, former captain MS Dhoni is bound to make news over social media platforms.

Be it the T20 World Cup or the World Test Championship (WTC) final, diehard fans of Dhoni constantly send reminders about the Captain Cool’s achievement. He is the only captain to have won all three major ICC titles –T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy. Dhoni’s contributions to Indian cricket are immense. However, to bring it up every time after a loss gets a tad too much, even for Dhoni’s former India teammates.

After India’s crushing 209-run defeat against Australia in the WTC final which was India’s ninth consecutive failure in an ICC event, a tweet by a fan praising Dhoni broke the internet.

The fan tweeted, “No coach, no mentor, young boys, most of the senior player’s denied to take part. Never captained any single match before. This guy defeated prime Australia in semifinals and won a T20 World Cup in 48 days after becoming captain.”

The Tweet was referred to Dhoni-led famous India victory in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. It happened months after India went crashing out of the 50-over World Cup in the West Indies.

However, Indian cricket has moved forward and Dhoni’s former teammate Harbhajan Singh tore into the tweet by saying that cricket is a team sport and it’s not an individual game.

“Yes, when these matches were played this young boy was playing alone from India... not the other 10. So, alone he won the World Cup trophies. Irony when Australia or any other nation wins the World Cup, headlines say Australia or etc country won. But when India wins, it’s said captain won. It’s a team sports. Win together, lose together,” said Bhajji.
