Rourkela: An employee of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was critically injured after being shot at by unidentified attackers who apparently made a snatching bid here, police said today.

Subodh Xaxa (50), a resident of Luakera village, was on his way to duty at the steel plant on his motor cycle last night when he was stopped at a deserted place near Rourkela aerodrome by two youths, they said.

Unsuspecting Xaxa stopped to listen to them but when the duo tried to snatch his bike he resisted.

S S Sethy, SDPO Rourkela said one of the two youths drew out a gun and opened fire on him and both decamped with the bike and the purse as soon as Xaxa fell down.

This was the second shooting incident in the city during the last one month. On May 16, two persons were shot dead and one person had a narrow escape in a firing incident at Railway Colony. The GRP later arrested three persons.

Xaxa was operated upon at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and the bullet was removed. His condition is stated to be stable, hospital sources said.
