After a long hiatus of 15 years, the Dongria Kondhs of the Niyamgiri hills under Parshalli Panchayat in Kalyansinghpur block of Rayagada district have fielded candidates for different posts in the forthcoming Panchayat election.

The decision in this regard has been taken in a meeting convened by Niyamgiri Pahada Surkhya Samiti under the stewardship of Lad Sika.

As per reports, nomination papers have been filed in as many as five wards from a total of 11 wards. While, two candidates have filed their nomination papers for Sarpanch posts, as many as four candidates are in the fray for the Samiti Member posts.

As per reports, the candidates in fray have started their campaign in a low-key manner to woo voters. With a few supporters on their side, the candidates have started their door-to-door campaign without much ado. They are trying to woo voters in their local Dongria language. No posters and banners are found in the area. Besides, poor mobile network in the area has badly affected digital campaigns by the candidates.

“With the support of five-six people, I have started a door-to-door campaign in my area. I am requesting the voters in Dongria language to vote for me. I have promised them all-round development of the area in return,” said Sarpanch candidate Kadraka Pule.

Earlier, keeping in mind the unity of the community, Niyamgiri Pahada Surkhya Samiti used to select candidates unanimously for various posts at the Panchayat level.
