Two labourers lost their lives after they were crushed under a huge boulder during stone blasting at Bandhaguda quarry under Gajapati’s Mohana police limits on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as Narayan Nahak and Bishnu Nahak from Jharedi village in Ganjam district.

As per reports, both the labourers were standing near the quarry during blasting when a huge stone rolled down and crushed them to death.

After getting information about the mishap, a team of firefighters arrived at the spot and launched a rescue operation to retrieve the bodies which are still trapped at the site.

“He was working here for the past six months. My neighbour informed me that he had been trapped under a stone. I came here at around 1 am last night. We have been trying to retrieve their bodies since then but could not succeed till now,” said Sampad Nayak, a relative of the deceased.

Bodies of both the deceased labourers are still trapped under the rock and efforts are underway to retrieve them.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a probe in connection with the incident.
