The residents of Chanrapada and Denua under Nimapada block in Puri district have expressed their resentment over the alleged poor quality of road construction in their area.

As per the allegation by the villagers, the newly-built road connecting Chanrapada and Denua Gram has started peeling off exposing the poor quality work.

The villagers have demanded immediate reconstruction of the road and stern action against the contractor and the engineer for poor-quality work.

As per reports, the road was built by Nimapada Village Welfare Department with Special Repair Funds. However, the newly-built road was damaged barely after two weeks due to alleged poor quality work.

Though the villagers have informed about the poor quality of the road work to the concerned contractor and engineer, it has fallen in deaf ears, it was alleged.

The aggrieved villagers have demanded stern actions against the contractor and the engineer. Moreover, they have also demanded immediate repairing of the damaged road. The villagers have warned to start an agitation if their demands are not met at the earliest.

“We had complained about the poor quality of work during the construction of the road. However, we were told that the quality of construction is of good quality at that time. But, the road didn’t last even for 15 days. We are facing several problems while commuting on the road. Many accidents are happening on the road daily,” said a villager.

“We demand strong action against the contractor and the erring officials involved in the construction work. The road should also be reconstructed at the earliest. If our demands are not met, we will start an agitation soon,” he added.

Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer of Nimapada Village Welfare Department Dhananjay Badajena has assured that the damaged road will be repaired soon.

“The road has been damaged due to heavy harvest work in agricultural lands nearby. The amount of damage will be accessed and it will be repaired soon,” said Badajena.
