The SDJM Court Bhubaneswar on Wednesday granted bail to Ollywood producer Tutu Nayak who was arrested on the charges of assaulting a female journalist in Bhubaneswar recently.

Nayak was granted bail on a surety of Rs 50,000 and a guarantor, official sources said. Nayak was arrested by Commissionerate Police on November 4 after the female journalist, identified as Debasmita Rout, accused him of assaulting her in full public view.

The incident had sparked widespread resentment with members of Odisha Women in Media (OWM), a platform for female professionals condemning the incident and demanding action against the producer.

The OWM members had also met the Bhubaneswar DCP and submitted a memorandum in this connection. The association members also urged the top cop to ensure a safe environment for the working female journalists in the city.

Prior to Tutu Nayak’s arrest, the State Commission for Women suo motu registered a case in this connection. The Chairperson of the commission, Minati Behera had also condemned the attack on the female journalist.

The Commission had also written to the DCP to look into the matter and submit a report within 15 days after investigating the case.
