The department also warned that posting such fake news was illegal and asked people to refrain from spreading rumours.
The fake post on social media stated the state government would impose a blanket ban on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country liquor from August 15. All the shops selling the IMFL and country liquor would be closed from Independence Day, the fake post read.
The fake post soon went viral, evoking strong reactions from the people with many condemning the government believing it to be true.
