In a shocking incident, a Class-IX student was stabbed by his friend over a trivial issue in the Sanakhemundi area of Ganjam district on Friday.

The victim and the accused are the students of Raghunathpur High School in Ramachandrapur village under Patapur police station in the district.

The victim was seriously injured in the attack. He was initially admitted to Seragada Hospital. Later, he was shifted to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur as his condition deteriorated.

As per reports, there was a heated exchange between both students over a trivial issue in the school. Subsequently, one among them lost his cool and stabbed the other with a sharp-edged weapon causing grievous injury in his belly.

“The incident happened at around 9.20 am. The student has been admitted to the medical. I don’t know much about the incident,” said the Headmaster of the school.

Talking about the psychological aspect of why children are becoming so violent these days, psychiatrist Dr Samrat Kar said, “Only the students should not be made responsible for violent activities. The activities around him/her in the family and society are mainly the reason behind it.”

“Children are often suppressed at home and in society by aggressive activities of others. They are also watching violent activities through video games and various media. These are also some of the reasons behind the aggressive activities of children. Teachers and students should not put any pressure on the children and they should try to understand the mindset of children,” he added.
