The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a new initiative named Team Shine (Sanitation and Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment) to enforce beauty and cleanliness in the Capital City.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange launched the initiative at a special event on Sunday.

As per BMC sources, as many as 10 enforcement squads comprising five members each under Team Shine will undertake enforcement visits across the city to check for illegal dumping of garbage. The teams will create awareness initially on maintaining clean environment and take strict actions thereafter against violators. Retired Army officials will take the lead of each enforcement squad.

On this occasion, a road show programme of the enforcement squads was conducted from Vani Vihar up to the BMC office through Acharya Vihar.

“The basic objective of forming SHINE team is to ensure a neat environment in Bhubaneswar. If the environment is clean, it will add to the beauty of the city. First, the team will bring behavioural changes about maintaining a neat environment among the residents through awareness activities. Then stern action will be taken against the violators. Fine up to Rs 10,000 will be imposed against the violators,” said BMC Commissioner Kulange.

“The members of the SHINE teams have been imparted proper training. They will approach the residents to maintain cleanliness in a polite way. If the rules are still violated, proper action will be taken,” he added.
