Pradeep Pattanayak

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra on Tuesday walked on burning coals like a Danda Patua (participant) at Jhamu Jatra. Patra participated in the Jatra being observed at Rebatiraman village under Samang Panchayat of Puri district.

The devotees were walking on fire as a part of the ritual. Then Patra reached the village and took all the people present there by surprise by walking on fire like any other participant.

Later, he went to the Jhamu Jatra held at Kanthapur village. There too he participated in the jatra and walked on coal embers.

He offered worship and sought blessings for the well-being of the villagers. Thereafter, he also had a darshan of Maa Jhadeswari.

Notably,  Jhamu Jatra is observed in the month of Baisakh and it ends on Pana Sankranti day. The devotees end their penance by walking barefoot on burning charcoal. In north Odisha, it is known as Chadak Parva.

The devotees generally walk on fire to invoke the deity to fulfill their wish. But Patra kept his wish secret.
