As many as five persons including four engineering students were arrested on Wednesday on charges of stealing bikes in Keonjhar. Four bikes were also seized from their possession.

As per reports, a complaint pertaining to the theft of a costly bike from Madhapur area was filed by the victim, who is a resident of Denua under Turumunga block in the district, at Keonjhar Town police station on March 31.

After registering a case in this connection, Keonjhar police started an investigation into the incident. Following the investigation, police found that four engineering students were involved in the bike lifting racket. After carrying out a raid near the mining area, police arrested five persons including the students. As many as four bikes were also seized from the rented house in which the accused students were staying.

As per police sources, the concerned students were stealing bikes out of their passion for the vehicles and to make fashion statements.

“While investigating the bike theft case, we found the involvement of the engineering students in the racket. We have arrested five persons including the four engineering students and seized four bikes from their possession. All of them have been forwarded to court. More investigation into the incident is underway,” said Keonjhar Town police station IIC Ramakant Sai.
