Intensifying its crackdown against the use of loud exhaust and rash driving, the Commissionerate Police has cautioned bikers of stringent action for violating the traffic norms.

With political rallies up and running of late, young motorists have been seen resorting to rash driving and riding bikes with various types of deafening exhaust sounds.

As a precautionary measure against such acts, the Twin City Police has warned that use of pressure horns, exhaust and rash driving may lead to seizure of bikes.

A WhatsApp number - 8039028107 have been launched for the public to register any complaint against the traffic violation.

“We have found many bikers are modifying their bike silencers and making loud sounds during rallies just for show off. We have launched a special drive to take necessary action against such motorcyclists who are violating the traffic norms.,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash.

“We are monitoring the rallies through CCTV. Besides, special teams and PCR units have also been engaged to keep vigil on such programmes. The bikes with modified silencers will be seized,” Dash said.

According RTO Act, modifying bike silencer is illegal and bike delivering sound more than 80 decibels is considered as violations of the Act.

So far, 11 bikes have been seized for violating RTO Act, the DCP informed.
