A day after the horrific visuals of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev ramming his car into a crowd in Khordha district sent shockwaves across Odisha, senior BJP leader and national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday demanded stern action against the suspended BJD leader.

At least 22 persons, including seven police personnel, were injured in the incident which was reported in front of Banpur block office on Saturday. Eye-witnesses alleged that the MLA was drunk when he ploughed the vehicle into the crowd.

After getting information about the incident, the senior BJP leader reached Bhubaneswar today. He will be visiting the injured undergoing treatment at the hospital, including at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

“Stern action should be taken against the Chilika MLA. His act has maligned the image of Odisha as the people of the State are known and appreciated for their humbleness across the world,” said Patra.

Patra said that the ruling BJD had suspended Jagdev for assaulting a youth. Several allegations were also levelled against the concerned MLA for his unruly behaviour.

“It seems that Prashant Jagdev did not learn any lesson from his past mistakes,” he said. “The act of the MLA is certainly condemnable. I urge the Odisha government to take exemplary action against him,” Patra added.
