Heavy and intense spells of rain continued to batter several places in Odisha on Sunday. It is now for the past couple of days that the State is experiencing enhanced rainfall activities under the influence of active monsoon and low pressure system.

At least three places in Odisha recorded extremely heavy rainfall with over 200 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.

As per the data shared by IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, Nuagad in Gajapati district recorded highest 237 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Other places which recorded 200 mm or above rainfall include- R.Udaygiri (233.4 mm), Tangi (Khordha) 210 mm and Banapur (Khordha) 200 mm. Similarly, Saintala in Bolangir district recorded 195 mm of rainfall and Puri recorded 158.5 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.

The rain fury has compounded the miseries of people in several parts of the State. Several villages in Motu in Malkangiri district are submerged in backwaters from river Godavari in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

There are also reports of landslide in Gajapati district due to heavy rains continuing since Friday. However, no casualty has been reported in the landslide.
