A Zilla Parishad (ZP) member belonging to the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was found hanging in his residence in Sishupalgarh area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Dharmendra Sahoo was found hanging from the balcony of his house. Sahoo was the member of ZP Zone 11 in Nimapada.

While the exact circumstances leading to the death of the ZP member is yet to be ascertained, a social media post by him just four hours before his death has deepened the suspense.

In the post, he mentioned about some video clips stored in two mobile phones. “All the videos are in my two mobile phones. Please bring all those to public limelight,” Sahoo wrote in Odia. It is not clear whether the police has seized the cellphones of the deceased.

It was also learnt that Sahoo had attempted suicide and taken to a private hospital in a critical condition. After recuperating, he returned to his residence a few days back.

As per sources, Sahoo originally hailed from Khandiakud village under Gop block of Puri. He lived with his family at Silupalgarh on the outskirts of  Bhubaneswar and ran his business.

The police have seized the body of the deceased and launched an investigation.

Speaking about Sahoo's death, his father-in-law said, “This (suspected suicide) is not the result of one day’s quarrel. Rather, it was going on for the past three months. After quarrel, he used to leave home and stay in hotel for 3-4 days. He had gone to somewhere and was brought to home after a lot of persuasion. However, he attempted to end life at home. I never filed an FIR. Because we wanted to unite the family not break it. He often tried to extract money from me. But last night he came home drunk and said either ‘I will kill or die’.”
