In a landmark decision, the newly-elected BJP-led Odisha government has buckled up to develop the Twin City (Cuttack and Bhubaneswar) into a Triple City with the holy city of Puri being included, informed Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

With all world-class facilities, the Twin Cities of Cuttack & Bhubaneswar will be re-developed into Triple Cities of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar-Puri, Mahapatra said. The H&UD Minister stated that the metro rail scheme launched in Bhubaneswar will be implemented by connecting Cuttack-BBSR-Puri in the coming days.

Presiding over a meeting, he directed officials to do ‘teamwork’ to provide quality services to the people of the urban areas. Mahapatra stresses on the need to develop world-class facilities with better rail connectivity, bus facilities, clean roads, hospitals and other facilities besides planting trees on a large scale as per the approach of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The Minister also advised officials to chalk out plan to revamp the urban traffic system and shorten the duration of travel.

“We want to transform Odisha into a state when the whole world will take it as a model state. We have Twin City, so we are planning to convert it to Triple City by including Puri. The holy city has brought Odisha good names and placed us at the world level. If the three cities are developed, it will become a financial hub,” Mahapatra said while speaking exclusively to OTV.

“This will create a lot of job opportunities and attract entrepreneurs and investors. Most importantly, we can end migration so that our poor people won’t have to go to other states to work as labourers,” he emphasised.

“We all know about Goa. All though it is such a small place, it houses a lot of shops, small and big industries and creates employment opportunities. So, why can’t we transform Puri and Paradip like Goa? We can develop Puri and Paradip like Goa,” he concluded.
