In an unfortunate incident, at least three workers died of asphyxiation at a chowmin factory at Narayan Nagar in Mohana area of Gajapati district on Thursday.

The victims were found unconscious inside the factor and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared them brought dead.

As per reports, the workers were working in the factory last night when gas leaked from a cylinder following which they fell unconscious. After being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the victims in critical condition by breaking open the door of a room.

“After receiving information about the incident, we rushed to the spot and broke open the door in presence of local IIC. The workers died of suffocation due to lack of ventilation. The gas cylinder was found to be on,” said Kabiraj Sethi, a fire service personnel.

“The workers were brought dead to the hospital after nearly 12 hours. The cause of the death is yet to be identified. We have sent the bodies for post-mortem,” said Dr Jay Panda.
