Dehra Dun: A leopardess was killed after being hit by a speeding train in Motichur range of Rajaji Park, officials said today.

The carcass of the two-year-old leopardess was found on the railway track by forest guards while patrolling last evening, said officials.

On being informed, forest officials reached the spot and sent the carcass for postmortem which revealed that the wildcat had died after being hit by a train, they said.

Sources have said that officials were planning to increase the number of guards on duty in the area to ensure that such incidents don`t recur.

Several wild animals, including elephants, have lost their lives after being hit by trains in Motichur range in the past pressing the park administration to put a restriction on the speed of the train to 40 km per hour.
