Leopard dies after public pelts stones

Krishnagiri: A one-and-a-half year old male leopard, which was attacked by the public near Mathur area in the district, died today without responding to treatment, Forest Department officials said.

The animal, which had strayed into Mathur from the forest area in the nearby Tirupattur district, was attacked by the public after it injured a 30-year-old man, officials said.

However, the leopard had attacked the man, only after the public started pelting stones at it, officials said.

The leopard then ran into an agricultural field and fell into a 50-feet well that was dry and sustained serious injuries on its head and legs, they said.

The animal was admitted to hospital after being recovered from the well using a crane, they said.
