Having smoothies for breakfast and evening snacks are a new lifestyle habit which is rapidly turning into an everyday affair. Though smoothies claim to have numerous benefits, such as helping you to lose weight; cleansing your body from within; promising glowing and healthy skin, not every smoothie is outright beneficial. Not knowing the right combinations can affect you adversely. The forbidden and unhealthy combinations in smoothies include fruits, vegetables, yoghurt/milk and grains that can cause many side effects. 

  • Fruits 

Consume a fruit by itself or don't eat it at all! They contain active enzymes that fight bacteria and react negatively after coming in contact with any other ingredient. When coupled with yoghurt or milk, grains, meat and beans, fruits become poisonous causing various skin issues. Sweet, astringent or sour fruits like mangoes, bananas, dates, apples, cherries, oranges, grapefruit and more cannot be blended with other foods. Also, fruits are rich in carbs which later turn into sugar during the digestion process and can cause a rise in insulin levels. Therefore, consume fruits in a healthy way with nut milk and dry fruits. 

  • Vegetables and Fruits

The 'so-called' nutrient-dense combination turns toxic if blended. Mixing fruits and greens is believed to be healthy, when it comes to body detoxification and shedding weight. But this combination is deadly as preparing smoothies with vegetables can release harmful gases causing digestive and skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, acne, urticaria and so on. Consuming vegetables with yoghurt, spices and grains can do wonders for your health.

  • Yoghurt or curd 

According to Ayurveda, curd is one of the heaviest foods in the Indian diet. However, a rich source of gut-friendly bacteria must not be combined with fruits as it can decelerate digestion and the body may absorb the nutrients more slowly than usual. Instead, mix yoghurt or milk with dry fruits and spices for a nourishing and full breakfast or meal.

So, bring some changes to your smoothies with these above-mentioned ingredients and claim the reward for a healthy lifestyle.
