The very handsome Shahid Kapoor turns a year older today. The versatile actor, born to Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem, is undoubtedly one of the most underrated actor-dancers in Bollywood, and his awards and nominations are enough proof of his peerless work.

As the actor who turned 42 today celebrates his birthday, let’s take a look into his inspiring journey from being a background dancer to the ‘Farzi’ of Bollywood.

Shahid had a very tough childhood as his parents divorced when he was only three years old. Shahid grew up with his mother in New Delhi while his father visited him only once a year on his birthday.

A very good dancer like his mother, Shahid began his career as a background dancer in the films Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Taal. However, as luck would have it, Shahid accompanied a friend to an audition for a Pepsi commercial featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, but wound up with the part himself.

He then appeared in a few ads and was soon featured in a couple of music videos thereby foraying his journey into Bollywood. Producer Ramesh Taurani noticed Shahid in the music video ‘Aankhon Mein’ and was keen to cast him in a film.

However, Shahid was 20 years old and too young and underweight. After years of hard work, Shahid got his first major break in Ramesh Taurani’s ‘Ishq Vishk’ which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

The movie went on to establish Shahid as a fantastic actor and there’s no turning back for Shahid since then. Initially called the chocolate boy of Bollywood, Shahid went on to work in a number of superhit movies like Udta Punjab, Kaminey, Jab We Met, Vivah, Padmavaat and Haider.

He enjoys a huge fan following and his blockbuster movie Kabir Singh is enough proof.

He forayed into OTT with Farzi that is breaking records. The handsome hunk is currently shooting for his upcoming movie with director Ali Abbas Zafar and has a couple of other movies in his kitty.
