Akshay Kumar's first look as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was unveiled a couple of days ago. Khiladi Kumar will be doing a cameo as the Maratha ruler in Mahesh Manjrekar's upcoming Marathi movie Vedat Veer Marathe Daudle Saat. While it is a well-known fact that Akshay is very good at speaking Marathi, his past experience with playing a historic character has not been very good.
He was badly slammed for his last release Prithviraj in which he played the lead character of Prithviraj Chauhan. However, Akshay this time has managed to nail the Shivaji Maharaj look and many have even compared his look with that of Sharad Kelkar's Shivaji Maharaj from the film Tanhaji. Even then, the netizens found something unique in the clip which shows Akshay walking gracefully in typical King style.
Our Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj lived between 1630 to 1680.

The electric light Bulb came in about 1880 two hundred years later !
This is not even creative liberty- it's just lazy film making & terrible that there is such disregard for facts in a film as important as this one. https://t.co/avOyDzpWkL
The clip shows King's throne and his darbar and slowly the camera gives a glimpse of the ceiling which has dim lights and what seems like electric lighting.
Now, that has caught the attention of the netizens. They have asked Akshay and the team whether Edison was born before Shivaji Maharaj. As is known it was Thomas Alva Edison who first invented electricity and that was more than 200 years after the reign of the Maratha King.
The clip has made the netizens curious as to how come the filmmaker is using the lighting to depict Shivaji Maharaj’s era when electricity was not invented till then. Many have slammed Mahesh Manjrekar and others for taking too much creative liberty and twisting the truth.
For Akshay Kumar, it is just a cameo role but a big challenge. He was directly rejected by the audience as Prithviraj Chauhan. And this cameo is one way for the Ram Setu actor to prove that he can do justice to the historical characters just like he is good at doing action, romance, and comedy roles.
