But it’s not easy to achieve success with this type of film production. If you fail to match the notion around the book, be ready for the backlash- the more popular a book, the more the backlash. 

However, only a few managed to hit the target that soared higher than the audience's expectations. Here’s a list of blockbuster movies that are successfully adopted from a book:

The Harry Potter series (2001–2011)

Dealing with witches and wizards, this magical movie series is still getting all the attention. Based on the novel series by British Writer J.K. Rowling, the movie has 8 parts. Although the movie's adoption of the books didn’t carry all the details, it was a masterpiece and loved by all generations. With enchanting spells, wizarding schools, duels, and games, this movie is a tale of adventure, friendship, family, and love.

Twilight (2008-2012)

Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Billy Burke, this is a fantasy romance movie series that leaves you wanting more in awe. With exceptional visuals, storytelling, and vampire stuff, this movie holds a firm grip on you until the end. This novel series is written by Stephenie Meyer.

Baahubali

With no argument, Baahubali was the biggest achievement in the Indian movie industry. With grossing viewership spreading across other countries, Baahubali was a time of thrill, excitement, and the beginning of a new era in India. However, this movie was based on the novel series written by mytho-fiction writer Anand Neelakantan. 

3 Idiots (2009)

This Indian movie, depicting the story of student lives, focuses on the true meaning and importance of education. Adored by the audiences, 3 Idiots was originally a book, titled ‘5 Points Someone’ and written by celebrated author Chetan Bhagat. 

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Starring actors like Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, and Bob Gunton, The Shawshank Redemption is a movie that narrates the story of a banker who gets life imprisonment for murdering his wife and her lover. As the story unfolds the lead continues to hope and never stops dreaming of fleeing the prison. This movie was based on the novel ‘Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption’, which was written by the famed author Stephen King.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Starring Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor, and Irfaan Khan, this movie garnered eight Academy Awards, several BAFTA, and Golden Globe Awards. This movie, which was one of a kind, was based on a book written by Vikas Swarup. The movie narrates the story of the slum’s children, their life stories, and struggles.

Life of Pi (2012)

This movie is based on the same-titled book written by Yann Martel. It depicts the story of a Tamil boy from Pondicherry who faces spirituality and practicality issues from his earlier age. After a shipwreck, the boy spends 227 days on a boat with a Bengal Tiger.
