The National Fellowship for OBC Students (NF-OBC) aims to provide financial assistance to OBC students in obtaining quality higher education leading to degrees such as M.Phil and Ph.D in universities, research institutions, and scientific institutions.

The Government is giving 1000 Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) per year to OBC students for taking up advanced studies and research. The total number of slots under the NFOBC scheme is 1000 per year.

The selection under the NFOBC Scheme is being made on the basis of merit of candidates in UGC-NET-JRF and CSIR-NET-JRF examinations, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

The Centre has revised JRFs amount with enhancement in fellowship rates w.e.f. 1.01.2023.

JRF (Junior Research Fellowship): Revised rates Rs 37,000 per month for 2 years

SRF (Senior Research Fellowship): Revised rates 42,000 per month for remaining tenure.

Old Rates

JRF (Junior Research Fellowship): Rs 31,000 per month for 2 years

SRF (Senior Research Fellowship): Rs 35,000 per month for remaining tenure
