In a horrendous incident, a youth on Friday allegedly beheaded an eight-year-old girl and walked with the severed head at Kasada village under Jamankira police limits in Sambalpur to show the horrific act to the villagers.

Some of the villagers overpowered the youth and tied him. Later, they handed him over to Jamankira police.

However, the motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained.

As per reports, the parents of the minor girl had gone to the nearby forest to collect Mahua fruits. Seeing the minor girl roaming around the village alone, the accused beheaded her with a sharp-edged weapon. He then walked around the village with the severed head to terrify the villagers and show his daring act.

Some of the villagers managed to catch hold of the youth and tied him to a pole. Later, they informed Jamankira police who rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.

A case has been registered at Jamahkira police station in this connection. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Tension flared up in the village following the incident. However, the panicked villagers refused to give any statement about the incident.
