Tension prevailed at Jaishapatna area in Puri district after locals staged a road blockade on Thursday demanding justice for the family members of a minor boy whose body was found near the railway tracks at Kharia road barely a day after he went missing under mysterious circumstances on March 7.

The deceased, Soumyaranjan Jena of Govindpur village in Pipili, was a class 10 student. Family members alleged that Soumya had been murdered by the relatives of girl with whom he had developed a relationship.

As per reports, on March 7 Soumya had gone to attend his tuitions. He went missing during evening hours. His body was subsequently recovered from near the railway tracks at Kharia road. The family members alleged that Soumya has been murdered and his body has been abandoned on the railway tracks. The bicycle of the deceased is also yet to be recovered.

Soumy’s body was handed over to the family after the conduct of the autopsy yesterday. Meanwhile, angry locals blocked a road today by placing Soumya’s body at Jaishapatna area demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the boy’s murder.

A senior police official said, “The deceased was living at his uncle’s place. The family members are suspecting that Soumya had been murdered and have filed a complaint to that effect. We will carry out a detailed investigation taking all aspects into account.”

The villagers let traffic pass on the road only after the local police officials assured them of a free and fair investigation in the case.
