How to check the authenticity of products, be it food or any other household item? Well this question is now haunting consumers, especially in Cuttack also known as the millennium city in Odisha.

The consumers are now left in quandary as Cuttack district is turning into a hub of adulterated products. This was again evident after a fake detergent manufacturing unit was busted by Malgodown police on Tuesday.

Carrying out further probe, police then conducted raid at Brahmanpada village under Tangi police limits area from where the fake detergent unit was operating.

ACP SN Muduli said that the unit was being run by Abhijit Behera along with two other associates. During probe it was found that the packaging of the adulterated detergent was done at Umar village in Salepur and a place under Sadar Police limits in Cuttack. Later, the product was being sold at various markets including Cuttack city.

Over 3300 kg of fake detergent, weighing and packaging machines were seized in the raids today.

The units were busted after Malgodown police intercepted a vehicle carrying detergent wrappers of a premium brand on April 17. An official of authentic detergent brand said that the fake products being sold by unscrupulous traders can be hazardous for the consumers.

It appears that the soda, colour and some chemicals were being used to manufacture fake detergent. The quality of such product is also very low and it can cause damage to clothes as well as human skin.

Tips to check authenticity:

The official said that a consumer first needs to thoroughly check the printing of the product. They can easily find the differences in the printing of the wrapper of a genuine and fake product.
