With the sole intention to earn quick bucks, racketeers are trying to adulterate every possible item, be it food or any other consumable product. The Rourkela Excise sleuths on Thursday busted a racket involved in manufacturing of adulterated liquor.

The unit was busted by the Excise department which swung into action based on an intelligence input. Three persons, including two women have been arrested from Jurapada area under Brahmanitarang Police limits.

The key accused have been identified as Sukanti Jojo and Maxima Dunga. As per allegations, the duo used to procure liquor from outside Odisha and used to adulterate the same by adding water.

Sk Asaf Ali, Rourkela Excise SP said, “The adulterated liquor was mostly supplied to various hotels and dhabas in the city. A total of 235 litres of adulterated liquor, labels, forged adhesive labels and other articles have been recovered from them.”

According to Ali, the Excise Department so far has registered 17 cases and 2300 litres of adulterated liquor has been seized in the past one year.

“The accused used to procure liquor at cheap rates from other states and used to adulterated them and sell them using local brand names,” Ali added.
