Girl injured in acid attack in Cuttack

Cuttack: A girl student sustained burn injuries after unidentified miscreants attacked her with acid here, police said on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Pinky Behera of Srikarua village under Cuttack sadar police station limits.

According to the victim, two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly threw acid at her while she was on her way to attend her classes at a computer institute. Following the incident, Pinky was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital here where she was admitted in the surgery ward.

Pinky has suffered 20 percent burn injuries, Emergency Officer at SCB Medical College and Hospital Dr. Bhubanananda Moharana said.

On the other hand, Pinky’s family members have alleged that the attack on Pinky is the result of a past rivalry between Pinky and her friend-turned foe.

Three years ago Pinky used to work with a self-help group (SHG) in Bhadrak. During her stay in the concerned self help group, she once had a tiff with one of her female counterparts who was sacked from the job following the incident.

Meanwhile, police have started investigating the case after a complaint was lodged in this regard.
