Suryakumar Yadav
Former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf has triggered outrage after making a derogatory remark against India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav during a TV discussion in Pakistan. Yousuf not only twisted the Indian skipper’s name into an abusive slur but also accused India of manipulating umpiring decisions, claims that ignited social media fury.
Reacting sharply, former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup hero Madan Lal slammed Yousuf’s remarks as “shameful” and “stupid.” He said, “How can you abuse anybody? Coming from a former cricketer, this is total stupidity. With DRS and modern systems, allegations of bias are baseless.”
Despite the controversy and boycott calls, the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash went ahead. Under Suryakumar’s captaincy, India sealed a dominating 7-wicket win. The drama, however, extended beyond the field. At the toss, Suryakumar refused the customary handshake with Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha. After the victory, Team India again declined handshakes, prompting Pakistan’s players to boycott the post-match presentation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) then lodged an official complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, accusing him of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and disregarding the spirit of cricket. At one point, PCB even threatened to pull out of the Asia Cup before stepping back and confirming their next fixture against the UAE.
With tempers still running high, the controversy has ensured that the rivalry off the field is as heated as the one on it.
