Odisha DGP YB Khurania speaking to media after review
Bhubaneswar is turning into a high-security zone as the Odisha Legislative Assembly's monsoon session is all set to begin tomorrow. To ensure law and order during the session, Commissionerate Police significantly stepped up its security arrangements on Wednesday, particularly around the Assembly premises.
Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania has reviewed the overall preparedness, and a three-tier security system will be enforced during the monsoon session, with 30 platoons of police personnel being deployed across strategic locations.
Security measures include the deployment of Striking Forces, Special Tactical Units (STU), Bomb Disposal Squads, Dog Squads, and Fire Services teams. In addition, five temporary police control rooms have been set up for real-time coordination and response.
To regulate crowd movement and prevent any untoward incidents, Section 144 of the CrPC will be imposed in the Lower PMG area, effectively prohibiting public gatherings. The entire Assembly and surrounding areas are now under intense police surveillance, including CCTV monitoring.
Barricading has also been carried out, and access to the Assembly zone will be heavily restricted. The police force remains on high alert to maintain peace and order throughout the duration of the monsoon session.
“The fourth session of the Assembly is to begin tomorrow, and 3-tier security arrangements have been made for the session. Forces have been deployed to guard the boundary as well as all gates. Security arrangements are also in place after entering the Assembly premises. Police forces have been engaged at the Dharna site,” the DGP stated to mediapersons.
Ample security arrangements have been made and forces are on their toes. I hope there will be no problem in police security and in maintaining law and order,” the DGP added.
