New Delhi: Cyclonic storm `Thane` packing wind speed of 85 km per hour today lay centred around 750 km east-south east of Chennai and was likely make a landfall between Nellore and Cuddalore on Friday. The cyclonic storm was expected to intensify further and bring rainfall to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Squally wind speed of 45-55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Andaman & Nicobar Islands till the wee hours tomorrow hours and squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely to commence along and off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts from tomorrow night onwards, the weather office said.

The cyclonic storm was expected to cause extensive damage to thatched roof and huts, minor damage to power and communication line due to uprooting of large avenue trees and flooding of escape routes, it said. Sea conditions will be rough off Andaman and Nicobar islands and will be rough to very rough from off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast from tomorrow night onwards.
