Berhampur: In a major crackdown on criminals in the State, two wanted law breakers were arrested today following separate police encounters in two places--Aska of Ganjam district and Kujang of Jagatsinghpur. Three policemen were also injured in the encounters.

In Aska, an encounter took place near Charimile square on Aska-Balipadar Road at around 5 AM when dreaded criminal Guruprasad Swain was injured while one of his associates Kalu Biswal managed to escape. Later, Swain was admitted to the MKCG Hospital.

Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Guruprasad and Kalu, police had deployed a team to nab them. When the criminals riding a motorcycle were going towards Balipadar, police intercepted them. Subsequently, the duo fired and hurled a bomb at the police. In retaliatory firing by police, Guruprasad was injured. A total of 13 cases including murder and dacoity are pending against him.

Also, two policemen were injured in the firing by the criminals. A gun, two live bullets and parts of the bomb were found from the encounter site.

In another incident, dreaded criminal Bikram Pal alias Don was injured near Kankardia road in Kujang of Jagatsinghpur district. Pal sustained injuries in the encounter and admitted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack.

This apart, a police sub inspector has been reportedly injured in the firing by the criminal.

Yesterday, the Commissionerate Police arrested dreaded criminal Rabi Rao after an encounter in Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar. Earlier, late on Saturday night, the cops were successful in nabbing two notorious criminals- Sipun Kabi & Harekrushna Swain following an encounter near Badagada area.
