Fire personnel booked for raping woman on pretext of marriage

Soro: A woman of Kamarapur area under Soro police limits in Balasore has leveled allegations of sexual assault against a man for luring her into physical relationship with false promises of marriage.

What's more shocking is the accused, identifed as Sangram Murmu of Saraguna village under Rasagobindapur block of Mayurbhanj district, happens to be a fire personnel.

As per the complaint lodged by the woman at the Soro police station, the two met in 2009 and kept meeting each other at different places and even stayed together for a period of time.

However, Murmu started avoiding and did not keep any contact with her after he got a job in the fire services department, she stated in her complaint.

The woman further claimed that she was impregnated twice and have had abortion both the times. It was only on June 15 that the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint against him on learning about his marriage on June 18 with another woman, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Soro Police has registered a case against Murmu and booked him under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). "Based on the complaint filed by the women, we have registered a case. A manhunt has been launched to nab him while further investigation is on,” said a police official.
