Bhubaneswar: Central Excise Intelligence officials have seized brown sugar worth Rs 6.5 lakh from two different locations in Bhubaneswar today and arrested two persons in connection with the same.

As per reports, the Excise officials had received information about brown sugar peddling in different locations of the capital city. Acting on the tip off, the Excise sleuths today launched a raid at Kalarahanga village under Mancheswar Police limits and seized about 53 grams brown sugar worth Rs 5.3 lakhs from one person identified as Krushna Chandra Nath.

In a similar incident, the Excise sleuths seized around 18 grams brown sugar from a resident of Salia Sahi slum. Both the accused were arrested by the Central Excise Intelligence following the seizures.

"One of the arrested persons confessed that he used to purchase brown sugar from Khurda and Jaleswar area and sell it in Bhubaneswar. We have intensified our probe," informed Jagdish Samal, Excise Inspector, Central Excise Intelligence department.
