Bhubaneswar/Jatni: More than 30 persons have allegedly been defrauded of lakhs of rupees on false promises of jobs. A case has been registered at the Jatni police station and investigation is on, said police officials today.

As per complaints, Jayakrushna Barik of Siko village under Jankia police limits in Khurda district duped youths and collected lakhs of money as security deposits by making false promises of providing jobs.

He established a fake NGO under the name of Health and Food Corporation with an office in Bhubaneswar. Barik also appointed some as agents and collected security deposits, the complainant added.

“Barik had set up an NGO - Health and Food Corporation - and took more than Rs 50,000 from each of us. Now he is absconding and his mobile phones were switched off when we tried to contact him. Therefore, we lodged a complaint at the police station,” stated Suryakant Moharana, a job aspirant.

Moreover, Barik used to provide fake ID cards and appointment letters to win the trust of youths, informed sources.

Barik also reportedly provided fake admit cards of East Coast Railways and defrauded some youths.

Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo said a case has been registered and investigation is on.
