PM should first convince UPA allies: Sushma Swaraj
"PCC chief (Ramesh Chennithala) of Kerala has gone public saying they have sent him a letter opposing this decision. Trinamool Congress and DMK leaders spoke against this decision in the all-party meeting today", BJP leader Sushma Swaraj twitted.
She said UPA-supporting parties SP and BSP are also in complete opposition. "His cabinet, his party, his alliance partners, his supporting parties –, nobody is with this decision. He should first convince them before commenting on the Opposition," the Leader of the Opposition said on the micro-blogging site.
Swaraj`s comments came soon after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s address to the national convention of Youth Congress here attacked Opposition, saying disruption of proceedings amounted to doing "injustice" with those who have elected MPs and lowered the image of the country.
Virtually rejecting demands from within UPA and outside for rollback of FDI in retail, Singh justified the decision as a well considered move even as Parliament was paralysed for the third day on the issue with Opposition, joined by UPA constituents Trinamool Congress and DMK, being unrelenting on the demand for its reversal.
Voices of opposition have emerged from within Congress also. While Chennithala wrote to the Prime Minister opposing the move, party MP from UP Sanjay Singh said the decision should be withdrawn as it will render lakhs and crores of small shopkeepers and vendors unemployed.
