Peshawar: Eleven pro-Taliban militants, including some foreign fighters, were killed on Friday when security forces shelled rebel positions in the restive Kurram tribal region of northwest Pakistan, officials said.

The army used artillery to target several positions, including one of the biggest militant camps in the region at Chinarak town, officials said.

Scores of rebels were injured in the bombardment, they said. The casualties could not be independently confirmed.

Officials said troops carried out the shelling following reports of the heavy influx of militants into Kurram Agency from Orakzai Agency.
