The Maoist surrendered before the Bolangir Police was working as an area commander in the Bolangir, Bargarh, and Mahasamund (BBM) Division.
Based on reliable information about dumps of explosive materials by ultras, the BSF personnel carried out a search operation in the Silakota Reserve Forest of the district.
The incident occurred when a joint team of security personnel was out on a search operation in Tekalgudem village, which is a bordering area between Bijapur and Sukma districts, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P. said.
As per reports, the encounter broke out during a combing operation by the security personnel in the jungle when they spotted the Maoists and their camp. The ultras fired shots at the police following which the security forces retaliated.
After a brief lull, a Maoist poster has been recovered in Sundagarh. The poster carries the name of Prem Kumar Jadav, Central Committee member of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI).
Circumstantial evidence and certain words written in the banner point to the involvement of the Maoists, who are believed to have put up the banners to threaten some contractors engaged in the border areas and intend to extort money from them.
Senior officials from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) also attended the meeting.
